Data Freelancer Profile

Ian Ferguson

Ian Ferguson

Howdy! I’m a full stack data engineer based in Brooklyn, New York.

I specialize in building and shipping systems to automate data ingestion and transformation across a variety of platforms. My expertise ranges from web application development to data modeling with dbt and configuring cloud infrastructure with Terraform. In recent freelance projects I’ve been tasked with:

  • Breaking a monolith web application into composable micro services (Flask, Docker, Terraform)
  • Designing a text-to-CSV parsing algorithm (Spacy, Google Vision)
  • Building an event-driven data transformation pipeline (Dagster, dbt)

Prior to my engineering career, I was a social researcher at NYU and Stanford University where I trained Machine Learning models to identify brain regions implicated in peer-to-peer connection, examined the relationship between hate speech and ambient demographic changes, and modeled the cognitive impacts of social heterogeneity. Coming from the analytical side of the table has shaped the way that I approach data engineering, and has given me a holistic perspective.

I’d love to hear about the ways that data can unlock your organizational reporting, let’s connect!
